Olen aiemmin puhunut runojen ja riimien merkityksestä mieleenpainamisessa.

Learninglish-blogissani tuon esille uuden nettituttavuuteni, eläkkeellä olevan opettajan, nykyään harrastelijarunoilijan, näkemystä loppusoinnullisten runojen merkityksestä englannin oikeinkirjoituksen oppimisessa: ne lisäävät fonologista ja foneemista tietoisuutta.

Josie kertoi minulle, että

this style of writing has been dying for about 100 years.  When I was a child the poetry which we had in our classrooms was written in this way and in fact, in the few books we had before we started school, (because the Second World War was on and there were not many books), were written in this way.  We had not problems at all with the learning of English, and if you look at the writing of people of my generation (for I am a grandmother aged 71), you will see few English mistakes.  This is because we used a lot of rhyming poetry in our classrooms which promotes phonological awareness, a key literacy tool.  Now that this type of poetry has disappeared, so has the standard of English dropped.  So along comes myself who has just written about 850 – 900 new poems, written in the style of the poets of the past, and suddenly the whole world is using it in school classrooms.  Last month  my poems went into 146 countries of the world and 19,000 pages were viewed.
